How to High Clearance Base Camp Links

Axial Pro Tip

High Clearance Base Camp

By Matt Higgins

The SCX10 III Base Camp RTR, Base Camp 1982 Chevy K10 RTR, and Base Camp Builder's Kit all come with standard straight rear lower links.

If you want to increase ground clearance and, as a result, improve rock crawling ability, you can swap to high clearance rear lower links. It's a fairly common modification for crawlers. Custom links are an option, but they can be expensive. The easy way is to switch to the high clearance rear lower links that come standard on the SCX10 Pro kit.

The SCX10 Pro has a 12.5 in. wheelbase and the Base Camps are spec'ed at 12.3 in., but the difference is unlikely to be noticeable with most bodies. Every build is different, so results will vary. It will be up to you to decide if the difference is noticeable. You may also have to slightly adjust the rear upper links to achieve the desired rear drivetrain angle.

To complete the rear lower link conversion to full Pro specs, you can also add SCX10 Pro rod Straight Rod Ends. These smooth links are string and unlikely to get hung up on rocks.
