AWCC 2011 SCX10 G6 Challenge™ Stage 1 Friday Night
When it comes to adventure crawling, RECON Crawlers is the banner organization that everyone who has heard of a G6 Challenge™ wishes to participate under. The Axial SCX10 chassis is the adventurer’s choice as it has the mechanical reliability worth spending hundreds of hours on. All this time is spent to make dream rigs come to reality in 1/10th fashion and at 1/10th the price and this is also what makes the Axial SCX10 the perfect platform as there are numerous directions and choices to build from this “blank canvas”. For those of you who are contemplating getting into R/C, never mind the scale size, the fun of a G6 Challenge is a FULL SIZE ADVENTURE!
The participants, organizers and national media alike where highly anticipating the results of giving ample time and attention for the SCX10 G6 Challenge™ alongside the premier 2.2-comp crawler competition. The weekend did not disappoint and showed everyone that things are changing and fast!
It only took one look at the drivers impound of vehicles to see what we all came for!
Under the trail guidance of Brian Parker, Axial’s very own team driver and tour guide director of the Recon Crawlers, Parker and crew unleashed a trail-system for the evenings event that everyone was looking forward. The first stage of the event would take drivers on an adventure, while starting at dusk, this would be the first taste of driving into the NIGHT! Lights all a glow, this was only preparation for Saturday nights Stage 2 as it was to be experienced entirely under the stars of night!

Yea, you've seen a lot of photos of this rig already.. He's they boss man! But did you even notice the tires on this rig!?!?!
The Subaru turbo-piping was getting too hot and the exhaust was falling down onto the driveshaft. The Twins-Turbo Inconel Manifold is on order for the 675hp four cylinder engine.
Still waiting for that air shipment.

CH-47 Chinook has delivered the goods and "Scooby-10" is back in the adventure hunt!
I heard the factory backed Subaru powered SCX10 rolling through the hills with turbo anti-lag popping and hissing and just as the "Scooby-10" rounded the corner we knew he had overcooked brakes as he was traveling at R6 speed, but the corner was a R3 and down the hill he rolled with his best impersonation of Travis Pastrana at Colorado Cog Rally in 2005
Engine stayed lit and seemed to have a little traction as it was slightly afloat but the cab was about to run out of air and started sinking fast and the current of the river started pulling the rig toward the deep end of the pool.
This was a situation of situations... I'm media, I just watch with my finger pinned in dis-belief! snap snap snap!!

Backyard Boyz at Grizzly Cave
This is my Axial SCX10 being driven by Matt of Car Action Magazine in his very first G6 Challenge. My truck is BEAST!!! One day I will start a blog about it as it has endured much and seen a many... stock as can be and driven with no remorse!
WOW! There was a lot of airplane traffic at this time of night!
Backyard Boyz Night Light
Myself and the Backyard Boyz waited for at least a half hour for this moment as it was rumored that there were a couple more rigs out on course. The Backyard Boyz had been cheering on drivers and lending winch-point assistance as this nasty ledge was becoming a full size grizzly cave. The following photos capture the event as it unfolds into one of the coolest recover-progression-assistance moments here at "Grizzly Cave."
First attempt at winching up is underway.
Too much overhang for the Adventure Van to sneak a wheel over.
So, assistance was made as a Rubicon rolled up and let the Adventure Van drive up onto the JK's wheel and Poison Spyder fender while using the ledge to plant the left wheel of the van on the rock for a makeshift v-crack ascent. Or at least that was the idea.
Any owner of an Adventure Van has to be a baller, so throwing said vehicle to the rocks is only going to give this rig a lot of character and a great story to tell back at the campfire! Replacing factory glass and mirrors is optional.
Here is the Adventure Van putting tonnage on sliders and relying heavily on a little cable as it teeter-totters up over Grizzly Cave.
Just a yelp and a big gasp for air exiting from the drivers window.
VICTORY at Stage Marker #72 Grizzly Cave
Adventure Van returning the assistance favor to Team Rubicon.
The ADV-Van was poppin' wheelies as it attempted to snatch the Rubi' up Grizzly Cave.
Try it again - faster this time, but same results. Head scratch and kick tire moment...
With all the onlooking assistance from the Backyard Boyz, the only solution was to back the ADV Van up and winch the front of the Rubicon up enough to get the tires onto the lip of Grizzly Cave and then STEP ON IT!!!
STEP ON IT - the Adventure Van did and got the Rubicon team up the ledge.

Cut Through Road at Cisco Snowbanks
My flash gives a moment of light as the adventure van of Tony Phalen rocks on through the night.
Luckily no one moved or turned off the spotlight I put on the back of the RV as this is how I found my way back. I was out on the trail until the last drivers had came by and I was doing a couple of campsite visits. I followed the trail back, but with no rigs and drivers out on course with all their lights on, it was DARK!
Brian Parker mad grillin' late into the late of night awaiting drivers to complete stage 1 of what was an AWESOME adventure!
